history grep? 2.3 beta

In all versions of 2.3 beta we have tried, some process (seems to be innd)
is spawning greps all the time. This is nuts. Perhaps I need to add a
new startup switch to innd to prevent this, but my current systems dont
have the horsepower to do these constant greps, and icoming feeds have
dropped to 19GB from over 70GB.
To test my theory, I made /news/db/history the null device, and for that
day I got a full feed of 70GB.
How do I stop these greps?
My current flags are:
$ /news/bin/ctlinnd mode
Server running
Allowing remote connections
Parameters c 14 i 50 (35) l 1000000 o 499 t 300 H 2 T 60 X 0 normal specified
Not reserved
Readers follow enabled
Perl filtering enabled
Many of these flags are beyond my ability to find in the docs or source.
