trouble upgrading to BETA

Have been running my reader-services box on a snapshot from back in
january. Upgraded to the 13may00 BETA release yesterday.

Have had a lot of the following errors in that time, so decided to rebuild
history and overview:

ovgroupmmap ovbuff is null(ovindex is 13577, ovblock is 892745271
Could not remove @050300000824000024800000000000000000@: Token not found

Overnight, ran the following, with inn shut down, and my buffindexed
overview buffs wiped clean.

news-nnrp /usr/local/news/db% makehistory -b -f ./history.n -F -O -I

exited cleanly about a half hour ago, with the following resulting history:

-rw-rw-r-- 1 news news 953529574 May 14 23:54 history
-rw-rw-r-- 1 news news 120 May 14 23:54 history.dir
-rw-rw-r-- 1 news news 106290000 May 14 00:30 history.hash
-rw-rw-r-- 1 news news 141720000 May 14 23:54 history.index
-rw-r--r-- 1 news news 807660494 May 15 07:27 history.n

attempting to perform the next step in the process yields the following:

news-nnrp /usr/local/news/db% makedbz -s `wc -l < history` -f history.n
Bad line #0 "00000343E6600000004 at ..."

i have no clue why this would be happening. 'line #0' of history.n is not
the quoted text. i'd rather not have to wipe my spool clean and start
over, though i did note from syslog a huge burst of the following just
before the makehistory exited:

May 15 07:26:07 nnrp makehistory[5111]: tradspool: can't determine class:
@0500000059D3000000D80000000000000000@: Bad article handle

but a grep for the 'bad line' string in syslog came up empty.

any thoughts?

Solaris 7 sparc, gcc 2.95.2, perl 5.6.0, inn-BETA-20000513.
