I can't get it to segfault consistently anymore.  I've managed to 
track it down to dbzfetch returning 0 for the offset inside of HISTgetent.  
What it is typically doing now is giving me the same article over and
over, no matter what message-id I feed it.  Does this sound like corrupted
dbz database?   Why would fetching by article number work fine if
fetching by message-id is so broken?
