Ok, some new data, still timecaf, but now tradindexed. Started
from scratch with fresh spool and history.

| de.alt.dateien.misc 0000000132 0000000131 y

| 200 nautilus.visp-europe.psi.com InterNetNews NNRP server
| INN 2.3.1 (20000831 prerelease) ready (posting ok).
| group de.alt.dateien.misc
| 211 2 131 132 de.alt.dateien.misc

So active and "group" claim that the group has 2 articles (131
and 132). That's not true, the group is empty. But overview data
is still around:

[~/spool/overview/d/a/d/m]$ ll de.alt.dateien.misc.*
-rw-rw---- 1 news news 498 Sep 2 03:02 de.alt.dateien.misc.DAT
-rw-rw---- 1 news news 4680 Sep 2 03:02 de.alt.dateien.misc.IDX

[~/spool/overview/d/a/d/m]$ cat de.alt.dateien.misc.DAT

Let's look around for these two articles:

Sep 1 09:22:33.977 c news.akk.uni-karlsruhe.de <cancel.NsIr5.26419$pA4.402781 at telenews.teleline.es> Cancelling <NsIr5.26419$pA4.402781 at telenews.teleline.es>

Sep 1 10:22:50.432 + mail.unlisys.net <01090004.2800 at secret.com> (@04000039AF67000600000000000000000000@) 1536 akk

Sep 1 12:50:57.119 + news.akk.uni-karlsruhe.de <cancel.01090004.2800 at secret.com> (@04000039AF8A00B000000000000000000000@) 1977 unlisys

Sep 1 12:50:57.119 c news.akk.uni-karlsruhe.de <cancel.01090004.2800 at secret.com> Cancelling <01090004.2800 at secret.com>

So both articles were cancelled, but their overview data is still
around, even after a news.daily run:

| expireover start Sat Sep 2 03:01:25 CEST 2000
| expireover end Sat Sep 2 03:05:22 CEST 2000

"xover" tells the truth: The group has no articles.

| group de.alt.dateien.misc
| 211 2 131 132 de.alt.dateien.misc
| xover 131-132
| 224 131-132 fields follow
| .

But the active has an incorrect lowmark and overview data for
the two cancelled articles is still around.

---

BTW, wrong active numbers seem to haunt me. The machine I've
mentioned some posts ago (2.2.3 with trad spool) has its own
mind on lowmarks too, but in a slightly different way.

1584 is wrong, must be 1779. "ctlinnd renumber de.newusers.infos"
corrects this. To prevent setting the lowmark wrong again, I've
deleted "expire.lastlowmark" and did a "ctlinnd renumber" on
the complete active. Did a "expireover -a". But after tonights
news.daily:

news at wuff:~/log > grep de.newusers.infos expire.lastlowmark
de.newusers.infos 1584

AIIIH! Where is this "1584" coming from?

news at wuff:~/spool/overview/de/newusers/infos > grep 1584 .overview
news at wuff:~/spool/overview/de/newusers/infos >
