Odd seteuid() error ?

geting error:

Mar 17 02:03:45 vallen inndstart: can't setgroups: Operation not permitted

even though it worked fine for about 1day.. after some change innfeed start
complaning, I could not figure out why... so I restarted innd, and now getting
this :/

inncheck reports no problems, and I know user/group news exist

[vallen:/usr/local/news]: id news
uid=8(news) gid=8(news) groups=8(news)
[vallen:/usr/local/news]: id 8
uid=8(news) gid=8(news) groups=8(news)
[vallen:/usr/local/news]:   

box is running old FreeBSD 4.0-STABLE,
