Problems with ctlinnd and nnrpd

Synopsis:

I have a single small server which I have built according to the specs,
below. When I attempt to access it via a reader, it (the reader) times
out. Nothing appears in the log file but an nnrpd does not appear to be
forked in response to this. When I attempt to use any ctlinnd command with
the possible exception of xexec, ctlinnd hangs, forever. The ovmethod is
ovdb. Otherwise, the configuration is exactly as described in the INN
Implementation Guide for a small single server with feeds.

I have built INN 2.3.3 on Linux using gcc 3.2 and glibc 2.2.5 with the
following configure parameters...

./configure --prefix=/usr/news --with-syslog-facility=LOG_NEWS \
    --enable-tagged-hash --enable-setgud-inews --with-perl \
    --with-tcl --with-log-compress --with-openssl \
    --with-berkeleydb=/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.3.3

Any clues as to where to look? I've tried searching the archives but
nothing I have found helps me to find where to look.

Thanks in advance.
