You might consult "man rpm" to double-check the -e option.  I believe that
removes it, but my memory could be faulty.

Where do you plan to get your newsfeed from?

Not a bad idea.  rpm -e does that remove it?  I apologize for being such a
Linux newbie.

Tell you what, when I get back to my feeble attempt at a news server would
it be best to just reinstall Linux and not select news server during setup
to make sure RH's news stuff doesn't get in there?  This is to be a test
machine until I can figure out how to do it right then will build the
production machine to be put into service.

Thanks for your patience and help, it's greatly appreciated when you don't
know what the heck you're doing.
