That patch addresses a potential deadlock situation, which could be what
you're running into, so I recommend that you install that patch.

But you also may be hitting another bug that Alex just brought to
my attention.  This bug can be avoided by turning on readserver.

It should be turned on, not off (the default setting is off).  If you
already have it on, you shouldn't be running in to the second problem.

There is no change in functionality from the users' point of view.
The idea behind readserver is that it scales better to large numbers of
reader connections.
