No, it might sound like it - but they do. Grep of nnrpd news.notice
shows many:
Jan 5 12:49:13 gondor nnrpd[30967]: sciences.sdsu.edu time 1734443
idle 1733941(18) nntpwrite 263(52728)
Jan 5 12:49:14 gondor nnrpd[31578]: sciences.sdsu.edu (130.191.140.33) connect

But all the stats for what groups were entered, read, etc are missing.

Grep of innd news.notice shows items like:
Jan 5 02:01:18 gondor innd: ctlinnd command L:/var/log/news/expire.lowmark
Jan 5 02:01:18 gondor innd: CNFS: CNFSflushallheads: flushing ONE
...
Jan 5 04:27:34 gondor innd: news-big.astraweb.com connected 42
streaming allowed
....[many of these streaming connections]
Jan 5 13:03:28 gondor innd: sdsu-out.feeder.erje.net connected 37
streaming allowed

So it appears that INND and NNRPD are being written to news.notice.

I guess that your syslog does not recognice INN's custom log rotation

I did restart syslog and I don't see any changes, still no perl stats
or readers stats showing up in news.notice.

Kind of puzzling. Thanks.

Bill
