Use CentOS packaging tool (there is certainly a command to query about
an installed package). Or "named -v".

You can test many things with Zonecheck
(http://www.zonecheck.fr/). When the server is recursive, Zonecheck
also tests things like knowledge of the root name servers, 127.0.0.0
setup, etc.
