unable to resolve one specific domain (hotmail.co.uk)

It isn't working with RedHat 3- and 4- supplied 9.2.4. I don't know about the other servers where we've seen it working, since I don't have administrative control of those hosts. It's unclear to me if it's bind that's not making contact, or simply that the door is being shut on our queries - as I mentioned, we do send UDP responses to ns1, ns3, and ns4.msft.net, and those leave my network, but no responses of any kind are received (and those servers don't appear to support TCP queries).

Other afflicted domains are (not inclusive):
hotmail.fr
hotmail.de
hotmail.it

Given this behavior, it seems like something within the hotmail.* infrastructure has changed. Now to get some visibility into what that might be...

(Also, "x_bind-users_x", if you'd like a personal reply, would be best to include an email address that's routable or guessable - for your consideration :) ).

right, thanks for that. It confirms at least it's not a dodgy
[mis]configuration on my part, which was my assumption to start with.

What's interesting is that 'dig +trace hotmail.co.uk' works fine,
whereas bind itself fails to make contact.

What version of bind do you see (and not see) the problem with?

Here it's 9.2.4. on both servers, and neither can resolve
hotmail.co.uk.
