I've just checked on the one box I have with a dynamic address. It's 
running Debian Lenny and the client leases are stored in 
/var/lib/dhcp3/dhclient.<ifname>.leases. Looking in there, I see the 
current leases data as I would expect it to be - don't forget that 
you are only interested in the LAST entry in the file.

This will of course vary by distro.
