I have looked all throuhg the logs (which are in /var/log/news).
However at this point they have stopped logging. I went and put the
default active and newsgroups files in and remade the history files,
this created a ton of things logging to /var/log/news/news. These
looked like this:
Jun 15 17:03:13.750 - news-out.dvmco.ip.att.net
<3b2a0869.13222324 at news.southslope.net> 437 Unwanted newsgroup

Jun 15 17:03:14.318 - news-out.dvmco.ip.att.net
<20010615090359.14936.00001754 at ng-mk1.aol.com> 437 Unwanted newsgroup
"rec.music.phish"
etc.....
I have seen this error a very few times...and am not sure what this is:
Jun 15 16:03:11.087 - news-out.dvmco.ip.att.net

I'm not sure if this is a standard error, or something else. I have
double checked all the permissions and they all appear correct.
After putting the active / newsgroup files back in from the original
server...once again I have nothing sent to the log files.
Syslog is producing this after the innd daemon's are running:
Jun 15 17:26:13 lich su(pam_unix)[25611]: session opened for user news
by root(uid=0)
Jun 15 17:26:15 lich su: Starting innd.

This is my output of my "ps -ef |grep news" command:
news 5228 1 99 Jun14 ? 1-00:48:53 /bin/sh /etc/rc.news
news 25660 1 0 17:26 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/innd -p4
news 25661 25660 0 17:26 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/innfeed
news 25663 25660 0 17:26 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/perl
/usr/bin/controlch
Maybe I am missing a process??
This is the output of "file" to my core that keep appearing
sh-2.04$ cd /var/spool/news/articles/
sh-2.04$ ls
core
sh-2.04$ file core
core: ELF 32-bit LSB core file of 'innconfval' (signal 11), Intel 80386,
version 1, from 'innconfval'
sh-2.04$
One last question...should I reboot the system? Would this possibly
clear any of these errors up? I would prefer not to, as its a
ftp/dns/ntp server as well.
Thanks again,
Ryan
